Terminalia Chebula also known as Hirda, Harad or Hartaki grows in forests in various parts of India. These fruits have medicinal properties and have demand in Ayurvedic preparations. RuTAG IIT Bombay has designed a machine for decortication of Hirda fruits. This machine has potential for dissemination at all those locations where ‘Hirda’ grows. We have presented a proposal for dissemination of 50 such Hirda decortication machines in tribal villages in Pune district of Maharashtra. The intervention is expected to reduce the drudgery of the tribal women and also generate better livelihood opportunities for them.
