Dr. (Mrs.) Bakul Rao is a Professor at the Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas, IIT Bombay since 2009. Dr. Rao has a total of more than 32 years’ experience in the field of environment and rural development. She holds a PhD from IIT Bombay in the field of Environmental Science & Engineering and has done her Management Program for Women Entrepreneurs from IIM Bangalore and has been awarded the “Best Business Plan Award”. She has been an “Environmental Consultant” with various multilateral agencies like the World Bank, ADB, INEP, GTZ and also works with different companies to provide solutions to environmental issues including Environmental Compliance / Permitting, Corporate Sustainability, Field Assessments and Remediations, LCA, ISO 14000, and CDM activities.She has also been a Consultant for Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute, Bangalore; an institute providing policy research for the Government of Karnataka; as well as a Project Coordinator for Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Bangalore, Research and Development Division.
